Enclosure Updates The Frank Ogasawara flight cage The Frank Ogasawara Flight cage is almost ready for use. Saturday, February 4 th , Bret, with volunteers Joe DiNunzio, Larry Gertz and Ken Dexter brought their gear out to finish up some details. Choroplast panels were placed over the corrugated white outer walls; aircraft cable was strung along the top to hang shade cloth on them. The exposed bolts along the infrastructure will be covered to protect birds from injuries. Steve McLellan also helped out on Feb 5. That fabulous prairie falconSpeaking of birdwatching... Steve McLellan also volunteers at the Cosumnes River Preserve. While ridding the preserve of the noxious pepperweed, Steve has been able to scope out great birding spots. Are you interested? Oliver in contemplation Learning to fly Oliver the year old red-tail hawk brought in last spring is undergoing taming. He's been fitted with bracelets and comes out at least once a day since January. TAMING BIRD REFRESHER TIPS * When taming birds are taken out, initial and mark the date on the white board chart in the trailer office, the birds' chart in the clinic and on the clinic clipboard. * Always check the tightness of the bracelets; * After checking with Bret, make sure they're greased monthly.
